The relationship between the reader and the writer is so interesting. As a writer, you can never be sure how your work will be interpreted and you never know when something you write is going to profoundly impact someone's life.
After many years of living with my father's mental illness and eventual suicide, I walked a dark and lonely road. I spent much of that time writing, my chosen way of processing. I clung desperately to prayer, for even in my despair, I knew there must be some reason I was still breathing. One author, in particular, whose work was not extremely complex but in its simplicity, reminded me of a hope in my faith I had forgotten. It was perhaps the most important influence as it reopened my spiritual doors following deep grief, trauma, and pain. Since then I've discovered several other authors that have continued to develop my faith and I aspire to one day write as powerfully as they each do.
